Introduction
The ARA has signed up to the rowing version of the UK Framework for Coaching which has been produced by Sports Coach UK in conjunction with all the Sports Councils, major Sporting Organisations and the National Governing Bodies of Sport. Successful implementation of the framework should lead to the UK having the best coaching system in the world by 2016.
The first part of the framework requires all sports to develop an Athlete and Coach Pathway along with a Coaching Strategy. WARA, SARA and the ARA, through the National source Group, have worked together to develop the strategy as the first step to developing the UK Coaching Framework for Rowing. The strategy will feed into the Forward Plan for Rowing 2009-2013.
The Coach Development Strategy for Rowing, which is outlined below, is ready for the ARA, WARA and SARA Executives to consider and endorse it. The timetable that has been set by Sports Coach UK requires us to gain this endorsement by 31 March, 2008.
The Consultation Process
The consultation on the development of the Strategy has involved the National Coaching Committee and it’s regional representatives, coaches from all aspects of the sport, and the Home Country Rowing Associations and their coaches.
