Information from the West Midlands Regional Junior Commissioner James Orme
WMRC Time Trial and Junior Championships - Sunday 22nd March
I will e-mail results on Sunday night to this mailing list and the results will also be published on the West Midlands RC website www.wmrc-ara.org
Note that the JIRR has a good website, at www.jirr.org ; this gives useful info on race sequence in April.
Please note that any payments not made before the day will be charged at £10 a seat.
Enclosed is a provisional entries list for Sunday; please let me know if you spot any omissions/errors.
Please note that we will need the adult help requested from all clubs involved; this is vital to the viability of the event; please attend the briefings, and make yourselves available.
Please read the following notes carefully:
1. Parking
***Please note that the "centre course" area will not be open on Sunday. Trailers should park in the area in front of the Grandstand, which will be open. There should be no more than 9 trailers, so there should be plenty of room.***
2. Times of divisions
All meetings and check-ins will be in the new Building - on the corner. There will be no PA this year, so please be prompt.
There are approx 25-35 boats per division, so there should be no reason for starting late; it will be vital that we keep to times, as we will need to have a brief meeting between divisions to clarify any selection places that have been won, and any problems with doubling-up. Please adhere to the following schedule:
9-30 - 9-45: Check-in for division 1
9-50 - 10-00: Meeting for all coaches, helpers and officials (Div 1)
10-20 - 10-35: All boats for Div 1 embark
11-00 am: Div 1 Start
11-20: Div 1 finish
11-30 - 11-40: Check-in for division 2
11-45 : Results for Div 1; selection announcement
11-50 - 12-00: Meeting for all coaches, helpers and officials (Div 2)
12-20 - 12-35: All boats for Div 2 embark
1-00 pm: Div 2 Start
1-20: Div 2 Finish
1-30 - 1-40: Check-in for division 3
1-45: Results for Div 2; selection announcement
1-50 - 2-00: Meeting for all coaches, helpers and officials (Div 3)
2-20 - 2-35: All boats for Div 3 embark
3-00 pm: Div 3 Start
3-20 pm: Div 3 Finish
3-40 pm: Results for Div 3; selection announcement
3-45 pm: Prize-giving
As far as possible, all selection issues will be settled on the day: PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE CHECKED WITH YOUR ROWERS/SCULLERS BEFOREHAND THAT THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE ON Sat 18th April). Some selections will be decided straight after the relevant division, and doubling-up on April 18th may then affect your ability to do the next division. It may then be possible to amend your entry slightly for subsequent divisions. This needs to be done by 12noon/2pm respectively. If in doubt, speak to either Jo Atkinson or James Orme). Please read and be aware of the selection policy.
3. No opposition in Event
For the J14/15/16 events, where only one entry has been made, that entry is likely to be selected (but note above, and the selection policy: eg if 2nd fastest J14 2x is faster that the one J15 2x, the J15 double may get the J16 slot). In any case, we would like these to complete the course to prove their ability; in these cases, if a boat has had no opposition and gets the selection, a reduction will be knocked off their April entry fee.
4. Medals
Gold Medals will be awarded in all events; Silver and Bronze will only be awarded where one other crew has been beaten. There will be Gold only in the J18 events.
5. Food
WRC have arranged for a mobile van to provide bacon rolls hamburgers etc. The WRC bar will also be open from 12noon, and WRC invite visitors to use the bar.
6. Contingencies for bad weather
At the time of writing, the river is fine for rowing, and the forecast looks satisfactory for the 22nd. There are only about 14 days to finalise all details of the team after the trial, including T-shirt sizes and cheques, so if we do have to cancel, we will have to use our "skill and judgement" to pick a team!
7. Entries out of division
Those entries which were unable to row in their correct divisions have been included and marked in red; for trials purposes these crews cannot expect to be considered automatically for selection and should not be able to claim medals, except in exceptional circumstances. Where an entire event has been moved by consent, medals will be awarded
8. Safety and ARA rules
In all matters relating to safety, ARA rules will apply; all boats will be checked by qualified umpires before boating.
With regard to age and eligibility, ARA rules will likewise apply.
With regard to substitution, changing composition of crews and crews becoming composites there is no requirement to stick to ARA rules; please notify check-in asap. In the case of composites and doubling-up, remember that composites are now allowable.
